Testing old prompts in Midjourney 5 – Part 1

Midjourney version 5 is finally here and I am very excited about sharing my latest creations with you. When it comes to photorealism the new version of Midjourney is mindblowing, but I’m not that into realism and I prefer more artsy and abstract images, so some of my old prompts don’t give me satisfying results in version 5, but I am working on rebuilding them.

The images below are generated with my best-selling prompts on Promptbase. You can see that the difference is quite significant.

1. Lineal Color Icons – before/after

Here the results with –v 5 are closer to what I initially imagined, but I like both styles. The new icon is simplistic and seems very easy to trace in Illustrator, which is a huge plus IMO.

2. Stunning Instagram Photos – before/after

This prompt still works but gives slightly different, more realistic results. The weak point of this prompt was always depicting people, which is now much better, but still far from perfect.

The only thing I like better in version 4 is the landscapes, whereas I prefer the surreal, dreamy vibes of version 4.

3. Gorgeous Floral Background Patterns – before/after

This prompt is another example, where the results are now far more realistic. This will depend on the type of flower, but in some cases version 4 wins.

4. Cute Baby Animals – before/after

So far this is the first prompt that gives somewhat disappointing results in version 5 of Midjourney. I much prefer the older version. Both the color scheme and the details of the design are more pleasing and unique. I’ll probably test this a bit more.

Conclusion

I think that despite the difference in style, most of the prompts are still relevant and usable in version 5. I will continue testing and refining them.
